Do you know what I love about being a DivaGirl leader? I get to see my members get out of their comfort zones and grow. I truly believe that being a leader, you are that person who motivates others to take on a challenge. You are that person who push other people somewhere they’ve never been before. A leader helps others realize that they are capable of so much more amazing things in their lives. It’s not easy to be a leader but being a leader can be very gratifying and fun. Check out the 3 great things about being a leader:
1. CREATING GOALS WITH YOUR MEMBER
As a leader you are the person who holds someone responsible to become a better version of themselves. You hold them accountable for what they can achieve.
As a leader, you do not tell your members what to do but you create goals with them. You help them design clear goals and guide them through the process of achieving these goals. This process is very exciting for both the leader and the member or mentee. It’s like creating a vision or day dreaming with them without losing touch with reality.
2. DOING THE WORK TOGETHER
As a leader, you are responsible to get things done and meet the deadlines (this is the reality). It DOES NOT mean that you will do all the work. This is when you delegate tasks to your members and assign responsibilities. This can be the toughest part as well because although you want to give your members autonomy, you also want to make sure that the work is getting done. At the same time, you also do not want them to feel lost.
This is the time where you actually get to see the strengths and weaknesses of your team members, which is the best time for you to reevaluate the tasks you’re giving your members. You always aim toencourage your members to use the skills they already havebut you also want them to find the other skills they posses that they haven’t explored yet. So as a leader you still want to challenge them with a new task to tackle. Let them get comfortable with being uncomfortable! Balance their tasksby assigning them work that they love to do and assign them with a task that they have never done before. Then together everyone works for the betterment of the group.
3. ADVOCATING FOR YOUR MEMBERS
As a leader, you are always looking out for your members. If something caught your eye that reminds you of your member or mentee then you share that information with them. It’s a great way to let them know that you are thinking of them and giving them some suggestions that they could use or do to achieve their goals.
Stop viewing other women as a threat! View other women as potential partners. Life is so much more stressful if you see every woman as a competitor. Stop that! As a leader, you encourage your members to grow by giving them a helping hand. Guide them in the right direction and show them the way to success.
There’s plenty of room at the top! As a leader you want your members or mentees to succeed in life. When you take care of your members and you sincerely care about them, you will win their loyalty and support as well. It’s a win win, right?
